FRANK L. BEATTY, one of the prosperous farmers residing in Otter Creek township, Mercer county, Pennsylvania, was born September 15, 1850, on the old homestead in the same township, son of Henry W. and Nancy L. (Limber) Beatty. The father, son of Francis Beatty, was born October 7, 1816, on the old homestead. He attended the common schools until sixteen years of age, when he began to cultivate his father's farm, continuing this until 1843, after which he worked through the Southern states. After his return from the South, he married, November 22, 1849, Nancy L., daughter of James and Mary (Phillips) Limber, of Sandy Creek township. Mr. Beatty settled on a part of the old farm on which he was reared, which tract he had purchased from his father, and here he continued to live until his death in 1889. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. His only child was Frank L. Beatty, of this memoir, whose mother is now living with him. The family are in possession of several heirlooms which are highly prized, among which is a table which is one hundred and twenty-five years old; a bureau, one hundred years old and a Bible which has been in the family and in use for one hundred and twenty-five years.
Frank L. Beatty attended district school until fifteen years of age, then went to the Normal in Erie county until he was twenty-one years, when he embarked in the retail grocery business, at Jamestown, Pennsylvania, which he sold after three years. He was then a clerk in California for two years, in a grocery store in Nevada county, on the Pacific coast. When twenty-six years of age, he returned to Otter Creek township, and settled on his father's farm, which one year later he purchased, and which he now conducts in a successful manner. Mr. Beatty is, in his political views, a Republican and has served his township as one of the county commissioners for ten years. His present farm contains one hundred and ninety-five acres, which he devotes to general farming and stock raising.
He was united in marriage at Meadville, Pennsylvania, October 20, 1887, to De Etta Campbell, daughter of James and Mary (Jackson) Campbell, of Jamestown, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Beatty's father is a miller and retired farmer. Mr. and Mrs. Beatty have three children: Mary B., now attending the public school; Wilson J. and Ruthford, both in school at this date.
