Claypool, Grant

Grant Claypool, who is successfully engaged in the produce business in Butler, is among the substantial citizens of the city. He was born in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, September 1, 1865, and is the son of David and Jane (Snyder) Claypool.
David Claypool, deceased, was a member of one of the oldest families of Armstrong County. He was a farmer and spent his entire life in that district. He died in 1904, and his widow resides on the old Claypool homestead in North Buffalo Township. Mr. and Mrs. Claypool were the parents of nine children, as follows : E. E., a farmer, lives in Armstrong County; Florinda, deceased; Grant, the subject of this sketch ; Lillian, married Elmer Sipes, lives in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County ; Joseph Muton, deceased ; Myrtle, married Samuel Cowan, lives at Ford City, Pennsylvania ; Simon, lives on the Claypool homestead in Armstrong County ; Belle, married William Yonkins, lives in Armstrong County ; and David Earl, lives in Armstrong County.
Grant Claypool spent his boyhood on his father's farm and attended the district schools of Armstrong County. When he was twenty-five years of age he left the farm and engaged in the meat business at Kittanning, Pennsylvania, for six years. He then returned to the farm, where he remained until 1924, at which time he came to Butler and established a meat market with a line of groceries at 500 West Penn Street, which he conducted until January, 1927. He then sold out and is now buying and selling produce.
Mr. Claypool married Miss Clara Etta Jack, of North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, the daughter of J. S. and Elizabeth (Bruner) Jack. They have six children, as follows : Myrtle, married Frank Killen, lives at Detroit, Michigan; Anna Belle, married Dr. Fred Rhodes, lives in Los Angeles, California; Blanche, lives at home; Violet, married Hugh Muirer, lives at Elwood City, Pennsylvania ; Theodore, associated in business with his father; and Milda May, married Paul McJunkin, lives at Butler.
Mr. Claypool is a Republican and a member of the Baptist Church.
