Amy, Charles T.

Charles T. Amy is a progressive and enterprising business man of Butler, where he is proprietor of Amy's Grocery Store at 415 West Penn Avenue. He was born at Chicora, Pennsylvania, November 25, 1885, and is the son of George W. and Susan I. (Fisk) Amy.
George W. Amy, deceased, ranked as a leading citizen of Butler. He was born at Flint, Michigan, April 4, 1864, the son of Thomas H. and Caroline (Hutchinson) Amy. His early education was received in the Michigan schools and he removed to Pennsylvania with his father at the age of sixteen years. He was associated with his father in the oil business in Fagundus, and Chicora, and moved to Butler in 1892, where he continued in the oil industry, but added real estate operations to his activities. For a time also he was associated with J. Charles Dengler in the undertaking business. During the twenty-eight years of his residence in Butler Mr. Amy was an outstanding figure in the business, political and social life. A Republican, he was elected burgess of the borough for a term in 1911 and was generally active in local politics during the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Methodist Church and belonged to the Woodmen of the World, Knights of Maccabees and Knights of Pythias. Mr. Amy died May 19, 1920, at the age of fifty-six years. His loss was keenly felt by the community, which he had so ably served. Of a generous and friendly nature, he was charitable in an unassuming way and always ready to support progressive movements. Mr. Amy was married September 10, 1884, to Miss Susan I. Fisk, the daughter of Charles W. and Emeline (Middleton) Fisk. They were the parents of three children: Charles T., the subject of this sketch ; George LeRoy, deceased ; and Edwin M., lives at Butler.
Charles T. Amy was educated in the public schools and also attended Iron City Business College. He was employed by the Standard Steel Car Company for fifteen years, after which he became associated with his father in the undertaking business in Butler. In April, 1924, he purchased the grocery business of H. W. Tebay, at 415 West Penn Street, which was founded about 1909 by Mr. Limberg. Mr. Amy has an excellent trade and one of the finest stores in the city.
On April 8, 1909, Mr. Amy was married to Miss Alice V. Thompson, the daughter of Robert J. and Jane (Seaton) Thompson, both deceased. They were natives of Butler County.
Mr. Amy is a Republican and a member of the Methodist Church.
