Elliott, Bliss G.

Bliss G. Elliott is well and favorably known in Butler, where he is successfully engaged in the printing business as proprietor of the Elliott Printing Company. He was born on a farm in Buffalo Township, Butler County, September 30, 1881, and is the son of Riddle William and Angeline (Cruikshank) Elliott.
Riddle William Elliott, deceased, was a native of Buffalo Township, Butler County, and the great grandson of Massa Harbison, who was captured by the Indians in Butler County during the early days. R. W. Elliott was always a farmer and also owned and operated a threshing rig and sawmill in Center, Buffalo and Clay Townships for many years. He died in 1920 and his wife, a native of Winfield Township, Butler County, died in 1892. Riddle William Elliott was married the first time to Angeline Cruikshank and the following children were born: Harvey 0., lives in Clay Township, Butler County ; Bliss G., the subject of this sketch; Bessie B., married Ernest White, lives at Blossvale, New York ; Pearl Blanche, deceased ; Chloe Edna, died in 1886 ; and Percy J., lives at Central Islip, New York. Mr. Elliott married the second time to Annie McWilliams. She was a native of Center Township, Butler County Pennsylvania. She died in 1919, and no children were born to this last union.
Bliss G. Elliott received his early education in the public schools and attended West Sunbury Academy, Slippery Rock Normal School and Grove City College. He was graduated in the class of 1910 from Wooster College at Wooster, Ohio. Mr. Elliott was interested in school teaching for 14 years and spent seven years of that period as a member of the faculty of Butler High School. His first business connection was with the Standard Steel Car Company in Butler and in 1923 he established his present business at 235 South Main Street.
On August 25, 1910, Mr. Elliott was married to Miss Margaret Iva Laing, of Ingram, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of James and Margaret (Rainey) Ingram, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott have two children, Alvin Wayne and Helen Gertrude.
Mr. Elliott is a Republican, a member of the Second United Presbyterian Church, and belongs to the Masonic Lodge and Knights of Pythias.
