ARCHIBALD McMULLEN, farmer, was born in Mercer, now Lawrence county, Pennsylvania, February 19, 1827, son of Galbreath and Mary (Park) McMullen, the father a native of Berkley county, Virginia, and the mother of Lawrence county, Pennsylvania, where her parents settled about 1800. Her father, James Park, removed from Virginia to a tract of land embracing the site of Edenburg, Lawrence county, and still in possession of the family. Galbreath McMullen was twice drafted for service in the war of 1812. He had a family of thirteen children, and was twice married. Archibald McMullen was brought up until the age of twelve in Lawrence county, his father removing to what is now Mineral township, Venango county, in 1838. Here he obtained a common school education. At the age of twenty-one he engaged in farming, but has since been interested in other pursuits to a limited extent. In 1849 he married Maria J., daughter of John Amon, of this township. They have an adopted child, A.L. McMullen. Mr. McMullen’s father died September 23, 1883, at the age of one hundred and four years, five months, and eight days. Mrs. McMullen is a member of the Presbyterian church, and he has always voted the Democratic ticket.
